Wegovy tablets are a new oral version of Wegovy, containing semaglutide, the same active ingredient used in Wegovy injections. Semaglutide works by mimicking GLP-1, a natural appetite hormone that helps reduce hunger, increase fullness and slow how quickly food leaves the stomach.
Unlike Wegovy injections, which are taken once weekly, Wegovy tablets are taken once daily.
They must be taken in the morning on an empty stomach with a small amount of water, followed by a wait of at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines.
Wegovy tablets have been approved in the US as the first oral GLP-1 treatment for weight management. They are not yet approved in the UK and remain under regulatory review, with an anticipated release in late 2026.
The clinical trials mainly report results at later endpoints, such as 64 weeks, rather than giving exact average weight loss for every month.
However, based on published clinical trial results showing average weight loss of 13.6% to 16.6%, the timeline below gives a realistic guide to what you may expect.
Average weight loss: 1-2%
During the first month, Wegovy tablets are started at a low dose. Some people notice reduced appetite quite quickly, but visible weight loss is usually modest at this stage.
Average weight loss: 2-4%
By month two, the dose is increased and appetite control may become more consistent. Weight loss may start to become measurable on the scales, although results are still early.
Average weight loss: 4-6%
By around three months, many people are more likely to notice a visible difference. Clothes may feel looser and portion sizes may naturally reduce as appetite suppression becomes stronger.
Average weight loss: 8-11%
By six months, weight loss is usually more noticeable. People who respond well and take the tablets correctly may have achieved clinically meaningful weight loss by this point.
Average weight loss: 12-17%
By one year, results are usually much more obvious. In the OASIS 4 trial, Wegovy tablets produced 16.6% average weight loss in people who adhered to treatment.
*These figures are estimates based on the overall clinical trial results. Individual weight loss can be faster or slower depending on starting weight, dose, diet, activity levels, side effects and how consistently the tablets are taken.
There is not a major Phase 2 obesity trial for Wegovy tablets in the same way there is for some newer weight loss medicines. Earlier Phase 2 studies looked at oral semaglutide mainly in people with type 2 diabetes.
In one 26-week Phase 2 dose-finding study, oral semaglutide led to average weight loss of:
Although the results are over a short period of time, these early results showed that higher oral semaglutide doses produced greater weight loss.
However, the most relevant data for Wegovy tablets comes from the later Phase 3 obesity trials, where higher-dose oral semaglutide was studied over a longer period for weight management.
The main Wegovy tablets weight loss data comes from the OASIS 4 Phase 3 trial.
At 64 weeks, average weight loss was:
13.6% compared with 2.2% on placebo
When looking at people who adhered to treatment, average weight loss reached was:
16.6% with Wegovy tablets compared with 2.7% with placebo
The response rates were also strong. By week 64:
This means around half of people taking Wegovy tablets lost at least 15% of their starting body weight, and close to one-third lost 20% or more.
Clinical trial results suggest that Wegovy tablets can help people lose around 14-17% of their starting body weight over 64 weeks.
Around 1 in 3 lost at least 20% of their starting weight during this period.
Overall, Wegovy tablets appear to produce weight loss that is broadly similar to the original Wegovy 2.4mg injection, although the trials were not direct head-to-head comparisons.

The results suggest that Wegovy tablets can produce clinically meaningful weight loss for many people, especially when taken consistently and combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
For patients who want to avoid injections, the results are encouraging. The main trade-off is that tablets need to be taken every day and have stricter administration rules than injections.

Wegovy tablets start acting in the body from the beginning of treatment, but the full weight loss effect takes time.
Many people may notice appetite reduction within the first few days or weeks. Weight loss can start within the first month, although it may be small at first. More visible results are usually expected after several months, especially as the dose increases.
The full treatment effect is usually seen once the maintenance dose of 25mg is reached.
Wegovy tablets can help reduce appetite and make it easier to eat less, but your results will still depend on how consistently you take them and the lifestyle habits you build around treatment.
Take your tablet first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, with plain water only. Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other medicines, as taking the tablet incorrectly may reduce how well it is absorbed.

Follow the prescribed dosing schedule. Wegovy tablets are usually increased gradually so your body can adjust and appetite control becomes stronger over time. If you are still on a lower dose, your results may be slower.

Wegovy tablets can reduce hunger, but weight loss still depends on eating fewer calories than your body uses. The medication can make this easier by helping you feel fuller, but overall calorie intake still matters.
Choose meals built around protein, fibre and whole foods. Good options include eggs, chicken, fish, lentils, beans, oats, vegetables and wholegrains, as these can help you feel fuller for longer.
Exercise is not essential for Wegovy tablets to work, but it can improve results. Regular movement helps increase calorie burn, support fat loss and preserve muscle while losing weight.
Poor sleep can increase hunger and cravings, making weight loss harder. Aim for 7–9 hours of quality sleep per night where possible.
Stress can affect appetite and eating habits. Some people experience stronger cravings or emotional eating when stressed, which can make progress less consistent.
Type 2 diabetes, PCOS, menopause, an underactive thyroid, and some medicines such as steroids or certain antidepressants may affect the pace of weight loss.
Consistency is one of the most important factors for success. Taking Wegovy tablets correctly, following the dose schedule, eating well and staying active all work together to support better long-term results.
Wegovy tablets can be an effective weight-loss treatment when they are taken correctly and used consistently.
They should be taken once daily in the morning, on an empty stomach, with plain water only, followed by a 30-minute wait before eating, drinking or taking other medicines.
Results usually build gradually as the dose increases, with appetite suppression often starting in the first few weeks and more noticeable weight loss developing over 2–3 months.
For the best results, Wegovy tablets should be combined with healthy eating, regular movement, good sleep and long-term consistency.
Wegovy tablets start working from the first dose, but weight loss usually builds gradually. Some people may notice reduced appetite within the first few weeks, but more visible weight loss is usually seen after 2–3 months, once the dose has been increased.
In one month, weight loss is usually modest because you are still on the starting dose. As a general guide, some people may lose around 1-3% of their starting body weight in the first month, although results vary.
Wegovy tablets usually kick in within the first 1–2 weeks, while others may not feel a strong effect until the dose increases. Appetite control usually becomes more consistent as you move towards the maintenance dose.
No treatment works for everyone. Some people respond very well to Wegovy tablets, while others lose weight more slowly or may not achieve the results they expected. Results can depend on dose, consistency, diet, activity levels, sleep, stress, medical conditions and other medicines.
Clinical trial results suggest an average loss of around 0.2–0.25% of body weight per week over 64 weeks.
