What is Epiduo?

Epiduo is a topical acne treatment which contains adapalene (a retinoid) and benzoyl peroxide. Both ingredients work together to unblock pores and kill bacteria on the skin.

How long does Epiduo take to work?

It can take around 2-4 weeks before you start to notice a difference.

How to use Epiduo

Wash your hands and the affected area with a gentle cleanser

  1. Make sure the area is dry
  2. Apply a thin layer of gel onto the affected area, once at night

Important note: Do not apply Epiduo near the eyes, on broken skin, or on sensitive areas of the skin.

What happens when you stop using Epiduo?

Acne may return, especially if it has not fully cleared. You can continue using Epiduo even after acne has cleared, to help prevent outbreaks of acne.

Epiduo before and after results

Epiduo results are usually visible after 4 weeks. It is a good idea to take pictures of the affected area, so that you can assess the results on a weekly basis.

Epiduo purging

Skin purging happens when your skin is getting rid of unwanted substances which cause acne. These substances are pushed to the surface of your skin, before being eliminated. This can make your acne worse, before it gets better. Epiduo can cause skin purging within the first couple of weeks. It usually lasts for 2 weeks. It is important to continue to use Epiduo, even if you are experiencing skin purging.

Epiduo alternatives

Epiduo vs Duac

  • Duac and Epiduo both contain benzoyl peroxide.
  • Duac contains an antibiotic, clindamycin
  • Epiduo contains a retinoid, adapalene
  • It is common practice to treat acne using Epiduo first, before using Duac
  • You cannot become resistant to Differin, as it does not contain an antibiotic. This means that you can use treatment over a longer period of time, to help prevent acne, as well as treating it
  • You should stop using Duac after 12 weeks, to avoid your skin becoming resistant to it

Epiduo vs Differin

  • Epiduo and Differin both contain adapalene
  • The only difference is that Epiduo contains benzoyl peroxide
  • For those that find Epiduo to be effective but irritating to the skin, Differin may prove to be gentler, as it does not contain benzoyl peroxide
  • Those that experience mild relief with Differin, may experience better results with Epiduo

Epiduo vs Epiduo Forte

  • Both Epiduo and Epiduo Forte contain adapalene and benzoyl peroxide
  • Epiduo contains 0.1%, whilst Epiduo Forte contains 0.3% adapalene
  • In theory, Epiduo Forte is stronger than Epiduo

"Janelle's Review"

This is the best product i have used for acne and acne scars so far, no other product has helped or done what this does. Highly recommend. I have had acne for years and had tried numerous products as well as going to professionals. I have even had microneedling and chemical peels. nothing had worked so far but this product works. Just be careful because when you start it’s a harsh product you will experience peeling and it might feel like it’s burning but try it.
