How to Store Wegovy

Does Wegovy need to be refrigerated?

Yes. Wegovy injection pens should be stored in the fridge before first use, usually between 2°C and 8°C.

They should be kept in their original packaging to protect them from light and should not be frozen. The UK SmPC states that Wegovy should not be used if it has been frozen.

Once you have started using a Wegovy pen, the storage rules become more flexible.

How long can Wegovy be out of the fridge?

There are two main situations to understand: delivery/transit and once the pen is in use.

Wegovy during delivery or transit

Wegovy can be transported at temperatures up to 30°C for up to 48 hours.

This means that if your pen has been out of the fridge during delivery, it can usually be placed back in the fridge and stored until the expiry date, provided it has not been exposed to temperatures above 30°C or left out for longer than the permitted transit period.

The UK SmPC confirms that controlled shipment below 30°C for up to 48 hours is supported by product data.

Wegovy once opened or in use

Once a Wegovy pen is opened or in use, it can be used for up to 6 weeks.

During this time, it can be stored either in the fridge, or at room temperature, as long as it is kept below 30°C and away from direct heat and light.

After 6 weeks, the pen should be discarded, even if there is medicine left inside.

How long does Wegovy last in the fridge?

If Wegovy has not been opened and has been stored correctly in the fridge between 2°C and 8°C, it should last until the expiry date printed on the pen or box.

However, this only applies if the pen has not been frozen, exposed to excessive heat, or kept out of the fridge for longer than 48 hours.

Once the pen is opened or in use, the 6-week in-use shelf life applies.

How to store Wegovy injections safely

• Keep Wegovy injection pens in the fridge before first use.
• Store them in the original carton to protect them from light.
• Do not freeze the pens, and do not use Wegovy if it has been frozen.
• Once in use, keep the pen below 30°C and away from direct sunlight, radiators, cars, windowsills or other warm places.
• Always keep Wegovy out of the reach of children.

How to store Wegovy tablets

Wegovy tablets are easier to store than Wegovy injections because they do not need to be refrigerated.

They should be stored at room temperature, around 20°C to 25°C, in a dry place away from moisture, heat and direct sunlight.

Wegovy tablets should be stored in the original closed bottle and not moved into another container.

Wegovy tablets should be kept:

• At room temperature, usually 20°C to 25°C
• In the original bottle or container
• With the desiccant packet inside
• Away from moisture, steam and humidity
• Away from direct sunlight and heat
• Out of bathrooms, windowsills and cars
• Out of the reach of children

The desiccant packet helps reduce moisture inside the container. Do not remove it unless the patient leaflet specifically tells you to.

Can you keep Wegovy tablets in the fridge?

No. Wegovy tablets should generally not be stored in the fridge. They are designed to be stored at room temperature in their original container.

Refrigeration can increase the risk of moisture or condensation getting into the bottle, which may damage the tablets.

This is one of the main practical advantages of Wegovy tablets compared with Wegovy injections: they are simpler to store and easier to travel with.
