Foundayo is a once-daily prescription weight-loss tablet containing orforglipron.
Orforglipron is an oral GLP-1 receptor agonist developed by Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro.
Unlike injectable GLP-1 medicines, Foundayo is swallowed as a tablet. Unlike oral semaglutide, it does not need to be taken on an empty stomach and there are no food or water restrictions when taking the dose.
Foundayo is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to help eligible adults lose weight and maintain weight loss.
It was authorised by the MHRA in the UK on 10 August 2026.
Foundayo is licensed for weight management in adults with an initial:
Examples of weight-related conditions listed in the UK product information include:
Meeting the licensed BMI criteria does not automatically mean Foundayo is suitable for you. Your medical history, current medicines and other clinical factors must also be considered before treatment is prescribed.
Foundayo contains orforglipron, a non-peptide GLP-1 receptor agonist.
GLP-1 is involved in several processes that regulate appetite and blood glucose.
Orforglipron activates GLP-1 receptors and can:
Its effect on appetite helps people consume fewer calories over time, supporting sustained weight loss.
Unlike peptide GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide, orforglipron is a small-molecule, non-peptide GLP-1 receptor agonist.
This allows it to be formulated as a conventional once-daily tablet without the strict fasting administration requirements associated with some oral GLP-1 medicines.
In the ATTAIN-1 Phase 3 trial, people taking the highest equivalent Foundayo dose lost an average of approximately 11.1% of their starting body weight over 72 weeks using the treatment-regimen estimate.
The study included adults living with obesity, or overweight plus a weight-related health condition, who did not have type 2 diabetes.
Average weight loss at 72 weeks
| Foundayo tablet dose | Average weight change |
|---|---|
| 5.5 mg | -7.4% |
| 9 mg | -8.3% |
| 17.2 mg | -11.1% |
| Placebo | -2.1% |
Participants also followed dietary and physical-activity recommendations.
At the highest dose, more than half of participants achieved weight loss of at least 10% in the treatment-regimen analysis.
Individual results vary and weight loss is not guaranteed.
When researchers estimated the effect in participants assuming treatment was continued as intended, average weight loss at the highest equivalent dose reached approximately 12.4% at week 72, compared with 0.9% with placebo.
This is why different publications may report Foundayo/orforglipron weight-loss results of approximately 11–12%.

Foundayo results: how much weight can you lose with orforglipron?
Foundayo starts activating GLP-1 receptors after treatment begins, but meaningful weight loss develops gradually.
You may notice changes in appetite before seeing a substantial change on the scales.
Weight loss generally continues over many months as the dose is gradually increased and treatment is combined with appropriate dietary and lifestyle changes.
The main Phase 3 weight-management trial assessed results over 72 weeks, so Foundayo should be viewed as a long-term weight-management treatment rather than a quick weight-loss solution.
Foundayo and Wegovy tablets are both once-daily GLP-1 medicines used for weight management, but they contain different active ingredients and are taken differently.

There has not been a direct head-to-head clinical trial demonstrating that one tablet is superior to the other.
Foundayo may be particularly convenient for people who do not want to follow the fasting and timing requirements associated with oral semaglutide.

Foundayo vs Wegovy tablets
Foundayo and Mounjaro are both manufactured by Eli Lilly, but they are different medicines.
Foundayo contains orforglipron and is taken as a tablet once daily.
Mounjaro contains tirzepatide and is administered as an injection once weekly.
Mounjaro activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, whereas Foundayo acts on the GLP-1 receptor.
Clinical trial results from separate studies suggest Mounjaro generally produces greater average weight loss than Foundayo, but the medicines have not been directly compared in a head-to-head weight-management trial.
For some people, the convenience of a daily tablet with no injection may make Foundayo an attractive alternative.
Take one Foundayo tablet once every day.
A major advantage of Foundayo is that there are no food or water restrictions around the dose.
It can be taken:
The tablet should be swallowed whole.
Do not break, crush or chew Foundayo tablets.
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1 | Take one Foundayo tablet once daily. |
| 2 | Take it at a convenient time of day. |
| 3 | It can be taken regardless of meals. |
| 4 | There are no specific water restrictions when taking it. |
| 5 | Swallow the tablet whole. |
| 6 | Do not crush, chew or break the tablet. |
| 7 | Do not take more than one tablet in a day. |
If you miss a dose of Foundayo, take your next dose as soon as possible.
Do not take more than one Foundayo tablet in the same day to make up for a missed dose.
Foundayo treatment starts at 0.8 mg once daily.
The dose is increased gradually to help your body adjust to treatment and reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
| Treatment stage | Earliest time | Foundayo dose |
|---|---|---|
| Starting dose | Days 1–30 | 0.8 mg once daily |
| Dose 2 | After at least 30 days | 2.5 mg once daily |
| Dose 3 | After at least another 30 days | 5.5 mg once daily |
| Dose 4 | After at least another 30 days | 9 mg once daily |
| Dose 5 | After at least another 30 days | 14.5 mg once daily |
| Maximum dose | After at least another 30 days | 17.2 mg once daily |
You do not necessarily need to reach 17.2 mg.
Dose increases after 2.5 mg are based on your response to treatment and how well you tolerate the medicine.
Your prescriber may therefore recommend remaining on a lower dose for longer.
The maximum licensed dose is 17.2 mg once daily. More than one tablet should not be combined to obtain a higher dose.
The most common side effects of Foundayo affect the digestive system.
These tend to occur more frequently when starting treatment or increasing the dose and often reduce as the body becomes accustomed to treatment.
These may affect more than 1 in 10 people:
| Side effect | What may help |
|---|---|
| Nausea | Eat smaller meals, eat slowly and avoid rich or fatty foods. |
| Diarrhoea | Drink sufficient fluids and seek advice if severe or persistent. |
| Vomiting | Take regular small amounts of fluid and seek advice if unable to keep fluids down. |
| Constipation | Maintain fluid intake, fibre and regular movement where appropriate. |
| Indigestion | Smaller meals and avoiding trigger foods may help. |
| Abdominal pain | Seek urgent medical advice if pain is severe or persistent. |
Hypoglycaemia can also be very common when Foundayo is used alongside basal insulin.
Common side effects include:
Low blood sugar can also occur when Foundayo is taken with certain diabetes medicines such as sulfonylureas.
Seek urgent medical advice if you experience:
Severe abdominal pain, particularly if persistent or associated with vomiting, may be a symptom of acute pancreatitis.
Stop treatment and seek immediate medical assessment if pancreatitis is suspected. If pancreatitis is confirmed, Foundayo should not be restarted.
Vomiting and diarrhoea can cause significant dehydration.
Severe dehydration can affect kidney function, so seek medical advice if you cannot keep fluids down or develop signs of significant dehydration.
Seek medical advice for symptoms such as severe upper abdominal pain, particularly with fever, nausea, vomiting or jaundice.
Gallbladder disease has been reported with GLP-1 medicines including orforglipron.
Tell your prescriber before taking Foundayo if you:
Orforglipron has not been studied adequately in some of these patient groups and may require additional precautions or may not be appropriate.
Foundayo can interact with some medicines.
It is therefore important to tell your prescriber everything you take, including prescription medicines, over-the-counter products and herbal remedies.
Important interactions include certain medicines that strongly affect the CYP3A4 pathway.
For example:
Some combinations should be avoided, while others can affect the maximum dose of Foundayo that can safely be prescribed.
The maximum Foundayo dose is 9mg once daily when used with certain strong CYP3A4 inhibitors or OATP1B inhibitors. Strong CYP3A4 inducers should generally be avoided because they can substantially reduce orforglipron exposure and effectiveness.
This is an important difference to be aware of when starting Foundayo.
Orforglipron may reduce the effectiveness of oral hormonal contraceptives.
If you use an oral contraceptive pill, you should either:
for 30 days after starting Foundayo and for 30 days after every dose increase.
Discuss contraception with your prescriber or pharmacist before starting treatment.
If you become pregnant while taking Foundayo, stop treatment and speak to your healthcare professional.
If you are planning pregnancy, Foundayo should be stopped at least 3 weeks before trying to conceive.
Foundayo should not be used while breastfeeding.
It is not known whether orforglipron passes into human breast milk, and a risk to a breastfed infant cannot be excluded.

Yes. Orforglipron, the active ingredient in Foundayo, is a GLP-1 receptor agonist.
It activates GLP-1 receptors involved in appetite, food intake and blood-glucose regulation.
No. Foundayo is a tablet taken by mouth once daily.
It provides a needle-free alternative to injectable GLP-1 weight-loss medicines for suitable patients.
No. Foundayo and Mounjaro are different medicines made by Eli Lilly.
Foundayo contains orforglipron and is a daily GLP-1 tablet. Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, acts on both GIP and GLP-1 receptors and is injected once weekly.
No. Foundayo contains orforglipron, whereas Wegovy contains semaglutide.
Both activate the GLP-1 receptor, but they are different medicines.
There is currently no direct head-to-head trial showing that Foundayo is better than Wegovy tablets or vice versa.
Foundayo has the advantage of being taken without fasting or food restrictions, while separate clinical trials have reported greater average weight loss with high-dose oral semaglutide.
Treatment choice should take account of effectiveness, medical history, side effects, dosing preferences and clinical suitability.
Clinical trials of Mounjaro have reported greater average weight loss than the Foundayo ATTAIN-1 trial, but these medicines have not been directly compared in the same weight-loss trial.
It is therefore not appropriate to conclude from separate studies alone that one medicine will work better for a particular individual.
The most common Foundayo side effects are gastrointestinal symptoms including nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, indigestion and abdominal pain.
These effects are particularly common while the dose is being increased and generally decrease over time.
Yes. Foundayo may reduce the effectiveness of oral hormonal contraceptives.
Use a non-oral contraceptive or an additional barrier method for 30 days after starting Foundayo and for 30 days following each dose increase.
Switching may be possible, but there is not a simple milligram-for-milligram conversion between Mounjaro and Foundayo.
Your prescriber should determine an appropriate starting dose and timing based on your existing treatment, side effects, medical history and the reason for switching.
Do not switch between GLP-1 medicines without clinical advice.
It may be possible to switch from Wegovy to Foundayo following clinical assessment.
Semaglutide and orforglipron are different medicines and their doses are not equivalent, so your Foundayo dose must be determined by your prescriber.
You should not take Foundayo alongside another GLP-1 weight-loss medicine unless specifically instructed by an appropriate specialist.
Combining GLP-1 treatments may increase adverse effects and is not part of standard weight-management treatment.
